Course Summary

This CABWI accredited qualification aims to provide candidates with the skills and knowledge to manage pedestrians and traffic safely and effectively.

Course Objectives

Operative objectives (O1):

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Carry out an on-site risk assessment to identify hazards and risks with the intended site.
  • State the action required to minimise risk and ensure a safe system of work.
  • Provide a detailed plan for an intended site, showing all distances and dimensions in accordance with the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
  • Provide an equipment list for the intended site.
  • Select and confirm suitability of equipment.
  • Set out advance warning signs, safety zones, traffic lanes, temporary traffic lights and pedestrian walkways in a specified sequence.
  • Demonstrate the testing, alteration of timings and commissioning temporary traffic signals.
  • Set out and remove provision for Stop/Go traffic control.
  • Remove temporary traffic management in a specified sequence.
  • Demonstrate use of personal protective equipment and good working practices in the setting out and taking down of temporary traffic management.

Supervisor objectives (S1):

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Carry out an on-site risk assessment to identify hazards and risks with the intended site.
  • State the action required to minimise risk and ensure a safe system of work.
  • Provide a detailed plan for an intended site, showing all distances and dimensions in accordance with the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
  • Identify any non-compliance from a given site plan and recommend remedial action.
  • Confirm a work site survey and record observations and remedial action required from the site plan.
  • Observe an operative setting up and taking down a site.
  • Record observations made and explain reasons for agreeing or disagreeing with site operations and working practices.
  • Explain any remedial action required with reasons for such action.
